Porn Sites popups are a result of adware activity. Adware is a kind of malware that shows you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click promotions, which generates a massive volume of income for adware suppliers. These ads might have sometimes shocking composition, or have a web link to malicious content/website, considering that adware maintainers have no reason to check the goodness of the content they are going to show – their single target is money.

Pop-up promotions itself is a very good, affordable and extremely productive advertising tool1. It allows the vendor to link the buyers’ attention to their website, and the buyers to receive dynamic updates on the goods they want to purchase. When the consumer will get a pop-up notification that the TV set he wishes to buy is offered at the online store he/she visited earlier with a 15% discount, one will certainly use this opportunity and purchase it. Taking into consideration the incredibly low price for the popups and their targeting, such an advertising and marketing instrument is a favorite thing amongst the marketing teams of large internet retail stores.

However, such a rewarding scheme could not be missed by virus creators. The option to show the popup ads forcibly to the victims of malware attacks is an excellent basis for evil-minded tricks with the popup advertisements. And porn sites promotions is just one of hundreds that are “employed” in this scheme.

How have I got the Porn Sites virus?

There are a plenty of ways of getting contaminated by the adware that create the Porn Sites popups storm. A lion’s part of these malware instances is after the free software or cracked programs, that are spread on the peering networks. Freeware may likewise be downloaded from the official web page, and the adware is presented as a legit bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A huge amount of users oftentimes work with dubious programs from untrusted sources: abandonware, a wide range of apps that are free, or perhaps hacked programs. Every one of these sorts of programs is dangerous, due to the fact that it is quite simple to include a Porn Sites malware under the cover of part of the license hacking script, or as a component of the self-made algorithm inside of the Windows optimization tool.

Porn Sites popup virus may also be hidden in the ad somewhere on the unusual website. Such websites are usually filled with colorful and blinking advertisements, and their owners usually accept any promotions to be placed on their page. Therefore, clicking such banners is a shot in the dark: only the ad provider knows what will happen when you press this advertisement. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or unwanted programs, you may also receive something a lot more risky, like ransomware or coin miner; the substantial share of coin miners circulation is exactly after the malicious ads.

People dislike popups

The statistic shows that people dislike popup advertising more than other types of promotions

Potentially unwanted applications, like Porn Sites popup virus may cause a lot of troubles on your PC. Distracting is not the single effect – pop-ups can show you the promotions, where you are offered to get another unknown program, or “a amazing anti-malware tool”. Scareware is often spread under the last slogun. Potentially undesirable applications, in turn, may have spyware functions. And it is pretty hard to distinguish the undesirable app from a normal one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the PUPs and pseudo antiviruses, popup-related ads are also used as a distribution method by different trojan viruses, for instance – coin miners. The consequences of actions of such viruses is 100% unwanted, and can cost you hundreds of dollars. And even if you are not interacting with these advertisements, they can be clicked by whoever who also makes use of your personal computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the situation can become much more serious, and it will be much harder to solve it without information loss. It is recommended to get rid of the viruses with anti-malware applications as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of Porn Sites pop-up advertisements?

The guide of Porn Sites adware removal contains 2 parts. Initially, we need to remove the malware, and then fix the results of its action. The elimination task is quite simple, due to the fact that it may be executed even with the use of Microsoft Defender – security tool that is present on all personal computers with Windows 8/10. Nonetheless, as a result of its large resources usage, along with some failures that may be critical for some types of individuals, Defender is oftentimes turned off by the users, so its use is likely impossible. When the browsers are reset, you need to ensure that your browser will definitely connect the correct DNS while connecting to the site you want. Create a text file titled “hosts” on your computer’s desktop, after that open it and fill it with the following lines3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.

Nevertheless, there is one issue that makes things a lot more difficult to fix, specifically without the anti-malware software. Most of adware versions that are used to show you the Porn Sites pop-up promotions are changing the deep browser setups, disabling an access to the settings tab. So, if you try to fix your browser settings after your PC was penetrated by pop-up-related malware, your browser will collapse quickly. In certain cases, you will see no crash, however, significant lag spike after pressing the “settings” key. Browser will stop reacting for ~ 30 seconds, and afterwards it will be back to the normal, until you attempt to open settings one more time.
